EXCLUSIVE: JOANNA SPEAKS TO OIKOTIMES
PARIS, FRANCE – We’ve been lucky enough to have an exclusive interview with charming Joanna Lagrave, one of the three contenders to represent France in Copenhagen.
Hello Joanna. Could you tell us a bit more about yourself and your career?
Hello, I started singing at an early age, it was instinctive. When I turned 19 years old I was lucky enough to be accepted to the prestigious Music Academy International in Nancy, where I could learn and improve my vocal abilities as well as experimenting new things, under the supervision of very talented teachers. When in Nancy, I was to take part to the Star Academy TV show, and I accepted. I then discovered the world of television, and it was love at first sight. Later on, I took part to the “Il Était Une Fois Joe Dassin” musical (staged by Christophe Barratier), and I toured France and Europe for 2 years with this show. I then worked on my own compositions, did some featuring, and all this has allowed me to think of the creation of my very own album, and I’m really looking forward to making people discover it.
What were your motivations to take part to the French selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014?
While working on my album and listening several tracks I fell in love with one specific song… and my manager decided to bid for Eurovision 2014. I thought it was a great idea.
What are your connections with the Eurovision Song Contest?
I watch it every single year. Every time I’m eager to discover the songs from each country. I used to watch it with my parents when I was a child, now I enjoy the broadcast with my friends. We enjoy ourselves, making funny comments and voting.
Did you watch the 2013 Eurovision edition? What did you think?
This was a very good contest and I thought Amandine Bourgeois’s song had a great potential.
How did you react when you were told you were among the three finalists?
I told myself it was great news., I was very happy, but first of all I realized that there was much work to me done and that we should focus of the upcoming events.
Can you tell us a bit more about your entry? Have you already started thinking of the staging?
As far as staging is concerned I have a few ideas, but I’d rather keep them to myself for now… The song makes me very emotional. It is one of those songs that make you think of a special moment that has changed your life. You’ll discover it very soon.
Do you know Destan, and Twin-Twin, the two other finalists?
I don’t know them at all. But since I’m a girl, I’m very nosey… so I went on YouTube to listen to their works.
Are you following the ongoing preparation work for Eurovision 2014? Have you ever been to Copenhagen?
So far I keep focusing on the January 26th show, I’d rather keep my mind clear. I’ve never been to Copenhagen, but I hope it will become my next travel destination…
Do you have a favourite Eurovision entry?
I love Loreen’s song “Euphoria”.
Do you have a message for French Eurovision fans and oikotimes.com readers?
I do hope you’ll like my song, and that it will move you. I’ll do my best to share this very special emotion my team and I felt while composing it? I hope you’ll choose me, and I would be honoured and happy to fight for France during the Eurovision Song Contest 2014.
Special thanks to Joanna and her manager Alexandre Esteban. Merci beaucoup et…bonne chance!
