Exclusive interview with Belgian HoD, Leslie Cable
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – A few days ago, the oikotimes.com team was lucky enough to get an interview with RTBF head of delegation, Mrs Leslie Cable. It was the occasion to learn a bit more about the broadcaster’s choices for Eurovision 2015.
First of all, thank you Leslie for taking time to give this interview for oikotimes.com. Can you tell us why RTBF (as opposed to its Flemish counterpart VRT) has opted for an internal selection for its entrant instead of a televised national final?
We have “The Voice” talent show in the French part of Belgium: 16 shows that end up with the election of the most beautiful voice. Choosing the winner of this competition as the 2015 Belgian entrant seemed of course obvious to us.
Many Eurovision fans were expecting RTBF to choose for Vienna the biggest Walloon star, Stromae. Was his name even considered as an option?
Obviously, this was not a question of will!
RTBF has eventually decided to ask Loïc Nottet to wave the Belgian flag. Can you tell us how this choice was made, and what are the reasons for it? Why didn’t RTBF choose the actual winner, Laurent Pagna?
At the end of the third season of “The Voice”, we met Laurent Pagna and his record company Universal to see if he could do the job. We didn’t come to an agreement. So, logically we asked the finalist Loïc Nottet, who had just signed with Sony Music. We got a straight and positive answer, and we are delighted.
How will the Belgian entry for Eurovision 2015 be selected? Will it be an internal choice, a televised national final or a radio national final like in 2013?
A press conference will be held by mid-January…
In case of an internal selection, how will the choice be made and who will do it? The broadcaster, Sony Music or Loïc himself?
The three of us ! And I must say that Loïc is being particularly involved in the process, and in a very professional way.
When can we expect the song to be chosen and revealed?
We will disclose more information by mid-January.
As far as the Eurovision family of events is concerned (Young Musicians in Plzeň in June 2015, Junior Eurovision 2015 or Young Dancers 2016) can we expect the participation of a Belgian (not to say Walloon) entrant?
The choices and decisions about this topic are not mine. It’s up to RTBF’s Management.
Thank you so much Leslie for your answers, and let me wish you, on behalf of the oikotimes.com team, « Bonne chance » for Vienna 2015 !
