MINSK, BELARUS – Ilya Volkov won the show with the song “Poy so Mnoy”. The 11 years old will represent Belarus in Eurovision Junior 2013 edition. Ilya was selected by a 50%-50% split of jury and telephone voting, and scored a total of 18 points. His song is called “Poy so mnoy”, which means “Sing with me”.
The team of oikotimes.com has the honor to have the first exclusive interview with Ilya immediately after his victory in the national final! Ilya was the backing singer of Egor Zheshko last year in Junior Eurovision in Amsterdam!
Congratulations Ilya. How did you feel participating and performing on stage? Thank you very much!!! I have no words! I am still feel excited and can’t believe I will present my country at Junior Eurovision! It is such a big honor for me!
What is your song is all about? What is the message you wanna share with us through your song? The title of the song is ‘sing with me’. I invite my friends and all people to share with me this great emotions to be happy, to smile and have fun. Just to join me and be as happy and full of energy as I am!
Who was the first person to cogratulate you and what were the first reactions from your family? When my classmates know that i will take part in national selection thy promised me to watch the show and support me! so they and my friends together with my family are my biggest fans! and i so appreciate this! My mom was the first one who congratulate me! She was supported me behind the stage! She is my biggest fun!
Did you believe that you can win tonight? Do you believe now that you can also win in Kyiv on November 30th? I was in Amsterdam last year with Egor Zheshko. But I was a dancer. And I so wanted to present my song at JESC. Of course I want to win in Kyev but I am absolutely happy now and for me it is a victory to Kyev and make new friends from all Europe! I so wanted to win you can’t even imagine. But of course I understood that it was just a contest. Besides I have already had one small victory. I became one of the contestants of the national selection. I would also like to add that all guys were perfect and we became good friends. I hope we will continue our friendship and also hope they will send me their support to Kyev!
Is your dream to become a professional singer? Who’s your favourite music icon and why? Of course I want to become a professional singer and dancer! My favorite artists are Michael Jackson Whitney Houston and Dima Bilan.
What is your favourite course in school and what is your favourite activity outside it? I love sport, to spend time with my friends and love dancing. At school I love mathematics and Belarusian language and literature.
If you had the chance to invite kids from Europe to Belarus for a visit, what’s the first place you want them to see, for which you are proud for your city? I am from Minsk the capital of Belarus. And for me it is the best city of the world. There are a lot of great places like national library, kids park, circus! I will be happy to show all this to my friends!
