Finland: Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2018 submissions
FINLAND – It’s that time of the year when Finnish national broadcaster kicks off the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu process. The show through which Finland will decide its participant and entry for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest kicks off submissions on September 1st and due on September 4th.
Aside the EBU rules, YLE says that authors and lead singer(s) should be of Finnish citizenship or permanent inhabitant of Finland. Singers can send only one song but they can also be part of a group. Then an expert panel will choose the finalists and the winner will be decided by jury and tele voting. No mention if the jury in the final will be international.
Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (abbreviated UMK, English: New Music Competition) is a contest for new music organised by the Finnish broadcaster, YLE. UMK began in 2012, as a new concept for the Finnish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, replacing the original Finnish Eurovision Song Contest selection event (Suomen euroviisukarsinta) which had been used since 1961.
