UKRAINE – Valeria Chachibaya joined Ukraine Today to talk about her experience and work as jury member at Eurovision. Ukrainian singer Jamala won the Eurovision song contest 2016. Her song “1944” was dedicated to the deportation of the Crimean Tatars, ordered by the Soviet leaders. After the victory, some viewers claimed the contest was politicised.
“Nobody called me or told me what to do. But, I do think Eurovision is political. But not only this year, always. Because it’s a kind of competition between countries, so it means, that a great level of geographical and political points will be included”, Valeria Chachibaya, a member of Ukraine’s jury at Eurovision 2016, shares her thoughts.
