PORTUGAL – Ola melting, from M&M Production, seems to be one of the two Heads of Production for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest after posting a photo on Facebook. He is involved for years in the Eurovision Song Contest and along Tobias Åberg will be heading the project of delivering one great show in Lisbon next May.
Last January Mr Melzig spoke about Eurovision involvement in general: “Eurovision has been the forerunner for our industry in so many ways. We were the first ones to use wireless automation and Catalyst, and one of the first to experiment with LED floors and projection mapped sets. Eurovision is allowed the time and money to be curious and strive to do the unexpected – the easiest way to do that is with new technology. “In 2016 we managed to gather pretty much the same team as three years earlier in Malmö, which really gave us the confidence to kick some serious ass and outdo everything that had come before it. The whole team worked so hard and it resulted in seven hours of absolutely world-class television.”
Alongside we will see T-Light Design AB’s Tobias Åberg (Head of Production in Eurovision 2016) making sure that his Eurovision experience will ensure a g=magnificent result for the event.
Before we all start moaning that Portuguese broadcaster gave the hosting work to Swedes, we have to remember that this is an international event with many technical aspects and in deep need for high level of professional knowledge in order to avoid mistakes and of course chaos (such as in Ukraine last year). We only hope to see innovations not only in the lights and stage but also in the idea and concept of how the show is delivered on camera (graphics, post card, hosting, scoreboard etc), as the last 5-6 years we kinda see every year a Eurovision Song Contest with the same idea and concept implemented in just different sounds and colours.
The official announcement of the RTP / EBU core team for the 2018 Eurovision production team is expected soon…
