Eurovision 2018 🇵🇹 Four million loss for Lisbon after the event!
Fotis Konstantopoulos (Greece)
PORTUGAL – It is reported by Diheiro Vivo (through ESC Portugal) that RTP spent 20 million Euros on the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest and got a revenue (from tickets, sponsorships, fees) only 16 million Euros. This means that Eurovision 2018 is failed financially at least in short-terms.
The RTP syndicate of employees calls for auditors to check everything during their last meeting on August 13th. They demand explanations about the spending of the public money. They also put on the table the issue of the World Cup.
It seems that something similar happened to the World Cup as well. RTP spent 12.6 million Euros to acquire the broadcast rights and so far the revenues reach the amount of 7 million.
The RTP employees are worried of course for their future. With two major TV events bringing a huge deficit to the broadcaster, their future is uncertain and call for actions.
RTP in a calm reaction said that they are aware of the difficulties and they will do the best possible to secure the RTP employees, not giving guarantees though.
