Eurovision 2016 to be set an hour earlier? SVT would like that
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Eurovision Song Contest 2016 might start at 20:00 CET instead of 21:00 CET if EBU approves the SVT proposal for an earlier opening of the show.
The main argument is to bring more young viewers from countries like Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan where the show begins around 23:00 – 00:00 local time.
Martin Österdahl speaking to DN also stated that the Eurovision show is growing further to the regular 3 hour-show and this is also making difficult for young people and kids to watch the show in the CIS countries and Russia.
Regarding the budget of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, Mr Österdahl said that it will be lower than the recent years and the money will not impact SVT as it will logistically spread int he years to come.
