Eurovision 2015: ORF signs a green agreement
VIENNA, AUSTRIA – Austria wants to present itself not only in a cosmopolitan and modern way, but also as a country with a high ecological awareness and sustainability skills. With the Green Event Certification of the event, the ORF wants to set standards.
For the first time the Song Contest is universally designed according to recognized environmental standards and performed as a Green Event.
The ORF will thus underline the importance of environmental and sustainability issues and set new standards for environmental and climate-friendly song contest organization. Based on the guiding principles of the Green event Certification the 60th annual Song Contest will be held.
Protecting resources begins with the use of existing infrastructure. Materials are used sparingly and reused or recycled avoiding waste as much as possible. Local and Organic Products from Austria have priority.
ORF General Director Alexander Wrabetz in association with Federal Minister Andrae Rupprechter (ÖVP) believe that the Eurovision Song Contest provides a good opportunity to carry out the Austrian standards for climate and environment-friendly events in the world.
