BELGRADE, SERBIA – RTS CEO Aleksandar Tijanić says that it is the company’s obligation to participate in “Eurovision” and that they had more success in the competition than, for example, Serbian national football team.
“Our success in Eurovision is much higher than in the European Championship in football. We persistently and stubbornly play qualification for the championship, but without achieving any results. Why does not someone propose to quit? Well, why should we give up?
Croats gave up not because of money but because they did not achieve any success. They wandered in the conception, in recent years they sent vocal groups. It would be like if we send some folk music performers,” Tijanić said, and noted that the only reason for Serbia quitting Eurosong may be the lack of money.
“Eurovision is a mixture of festival tourism, songs, shows, minority-oriented group. When it comes to music, the quality is nothing special, it is a festival of light music, but the state should do all it can to send a representative to Denmark.
In fact, we are imposed by special obligation to participate, given that we were the hosts of a “contest” when Serbia won high praise for the organization,” says Director of Public Service.
This competition costs Serbia 350,000 euros ($472,000), sponsors and advertisements covering 200,000, which means that RTS is currently missing some 150,000 euros to send Serbian representatives in Copenhagen.
