ESC 2014: HOST CITY IN EARLY AUTUMN
Three cities and four venues have been left to compete to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark.
Host broadcaster DR is expected to confirm its selection in conjunction with the EBU in early Autumn from a choice of:
• The Boxen Arena in Herning
Herning hosted this year’s edition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, the Danish national selection, in its new Boxen Arena with space for up to 15,000 people – slightly more than the Malmö Arena where this year’s contest was held.
• Fængslet in Horsens
Horsens’ bid is by far the most unusual, seeking to stage the contest in the courtyard of a decommissioned prison. There is room for 13,000 standing guests and a proposal to cover the courtyard to create an indoor venue.
• DR Byen in Copenhagen
DR Byen is equipped with the latest broadcasting technology and TV know-how and proposes to erect a massive tent to accommodate Contest fans.
• B&W-Hallerne in Copenhagen
Located in the Refshaleøen area of Amager in Copenhagen, this old industrial complex is described as a ‘playground for the culture and experiences industry’. Organizers claim the venue can be tailored to the event, making use of its ‘raw and industrial look’.
The Semi-Finals will take place on Tuesday, 6th and Thursday, 8th of May, leading up to the Grand Final on Saturday, May 10.
