ESC 2014: DR ASKS FOR EXTRA CASH!
The host of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, broadcaster DR, has applied for additional funds from the Danish Ministry of Culture to stage next year’s event.
The network has set its budget between 21-23 million Euros. The city of Copenhagen will also contribute to the contest by providing approx 5,3 million Euros.
Politicians will soon debate whether to approve the additional funds to DR, however, members from both ends of the political spectrum agree further funds should be allocated to the broadcaster.
Last year’s contest in Sweden had one of the lowest budgets in recent times, standing at 15,5 million Euros. It was followed by Oslo in 2009 with 16,5 million Euros, then Belgrade in 2008 with 19 million Euros, Duesseldorf with 30 million Euros, Moscow with 32 million Euros and finally Baku which was the most expensive Eurovisions ever staged reaching a 35 million Euros budget.
