EBU’s JESC team thrilled with… 37,000 online visits!
ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – EBU’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest team apologised today for the collapse of the international voting project as the “huge” traffic to the website led the system into collapse.
Sound of Data, the newly appointed voting supervisor company from The Netherlands said (through Guido Jongen) that they didn’t expect this kind of traffic to the official website.
EBU’s Junior Eurovision Executive Supervisor Vlad Yakovlev said that from 4,000 online viewers in 2013 they were provisionally estimating 8,000 viewers for 2014 something that Sound of Data risen to 15,000 just for precaution.
Though the EBU Junior Eurovision Song Contest team was shocked when the unbelievable and astronomical number of 37,000 viewers connected online in the first seconds when international voting launched!
EBU’s Vlad Yakovlev apologised for the failure of the project and the only result he sees is that this made him happy as the interest increased (online).
Sound of Data claims 91,000 requests made by online voters especially from UK, Greece, Germany, Spain, USA, France, Austria, Belgium.
I was personally shocked when the official text of the organisers in the Air Malta flight magazine advertised the 2014 Junior Eurovision saying that “it’s the biggest TV show in the world for kids with estimated viewers of more than 3 million”.
I cannot help but wonder: are they really satisfied with numbers like 37,000 online visitors in few seconds and they spend all that money for JESC for just those 3 million viewers (as they say)? Interesting fact is that the idea of the project was made though by the same person who arranged some of the free press trips for specific websites in Malta this year.
