DR: FIVE CITIES IN THE HOSTING RUN
The search is on for the host city of the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest. Denmark is set to host the event but it will be a battle between the capital Copenhagen and the city of Herring. Aarhus, which was also interested in hosting the event, has withdrawn from the bidding process but will assist Herring if the city gets to host the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest.
The bidding process officially begins tomorrow after which host broadcaster DR will make a decision. “We have not taken any decision on where in the country it should be. I think it is important to have an open process where we examine the opportunities and collaborations that, and we have not been to talk to anyone yet. I know that people have been out to comment on different things. But I think only, it is positive if there are different options. And then we take it from there”, DR Director General Maria Rorbye Ronn says.
If the contest is held in Copenhagen, the 2001 venue, the Parken Arena, would be utilised once again. If, however the contest heads to Herring, the event would take place at the Boxen Arena, which played host to this year’s Danish national final.

Aalborg enters the race for the host city
Danish national broadcaster, DR, has announced that the city of Aalborg is also interested in hosting next Eurovision Song Contest. The bidding arena is Gigantium, where Dansk Melodi Gran Prix was held in 2012. Just over eight thousand people can attend happenings like this so it is very questionable if it will be chosen, since the other two competitors are Herning and Copenhagen, where more people can settle down.
UPDATE
Fredericia enters the race
It seems that DR will have a hard decision to make as the town of Fredericia would also like to host the 59th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. A big convention centre is located there and requiered equipment is already there. With the stage, 8000 people is able to attend a concert like happening, also the second biggest hotel is there so accomodation problems are solved too. What will DR decide, Copenhagen, Herning, Aalborg or latest competitor, Fredericia? We will just have to wait for couple of months for the final decision. Lets just hope that DR will not be so cheap with the organization as SVT was.

Fans from Malmo must have been very notty when city of Horsens enters the race for next hope with it’s venue, the state’s prison! No we are not kidding, this is true. Mister Frank Panduro, prison’s manager says that they can host arround 10.000 spectators but all “seats” are for standing. In his opinion the only problem is the weather as the venue does not have a roof. So how the race is going untill end of the year probably every single town in Denmark will offer to DR to host the contest. Is it really that important? Is it really worth all that? SVT decided for Malmo over Stockholm, because Copenhagen is just over the bridge, so fans, delegations, press and others had an opportunity of using accomodation in Denmark’s capital. Then DR should use Copenhagen, because Malmo is so close.
