DR EXPLAINS HOW HOST CITY CHOSEN
The Eurovision Song Contest 2014 is officially hosted in Copenhagen on May 6, 8 and 10 at the B&W Hallerne on Refshaleøen under the motto “Join Us” as announced this morning on a special DR press conference.
Executive Producer, Pernille Gaardbo explained how the decision reached. B&W Hallerne on Refshaleøen will be an ideal setting for Eurovision, producing an innovative TV show for the first time in the contest’s history. Refshaleøen will be the “Eurovision Island” in May gathering Danes and Europeans for this great event, Pernille said.
We wanted to modernize but also keep the traditions by choosing this venue. We can make a venue look as we want for this show, she continued. We wanted to combine the needs of 170 million viewers but also the demands of those attending the event for two weeks, she concluded.
Regarding Herning and Horsens, Pernille said that both bids were interesting and well presented saying that Boxen at Herning was a great solution for Eurovision 2014 as well. The current venue choice though gave us the opportunity to make a totally new style contest.
About the potential tent at the DR Headquarters, Pernille said that it was indeed an interesting idea but with many practical problems which could end up into obstacles for the production of a great show.
The Eurovision team in Danish national broadcaster is now working hard to make B&W Hallerne on Refshaleøen suitable and ready for 2014 working hard with the city administration as they have to make a totally raw factory into a perfect venue for Eurovision Song Contest fit to TV production standards, said Pernille.
The 2014 Eurovision Song Contest will take place on the 6th, 8th and 10th of May in Copenhagen.
