CZECH REPUBLIC- Lake Malawi have just released the new music video for Friend of a Friend. This song will represent the Czech Republic in Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in May.
Lake Malawi frontman Albert Černý travels from one Instagram post to the next as if magically walking through walls of random buildings, apartments and lifts, appearing in a car, a dance lesson, a famous Prague skateboarding spot and even getting arrested only to escape back into where he started scrolling.
The video consists of 170 different mutually intertwining stories and was directed by Jordan Haj and Givinar Kříž. The band also showcase their close connection to their ever-growing and international fan base by including videos of their fans dancing and singing along to the song across the world.
“I trusted Jordan and Givi from the beginning”, says Albert.
“They know what we’re about and they like the music, that’s really important. Their idea instantly clicked with us and I’m happy our fans got involved too. We’ve got footage from Chile, Ukraine and even China!’ adds Černý.
In the video, the singer wears the characteristic yellow sweatshirt designed by his sister Karolína Černá. „I like ethical fashion so I`m proud to say that my sweatshirt is made of bio fair-trade sustainable cotton!“
“We were mainly inspired by the never-ending chain of friends and friends of their friends on different screens. We all follow each other on social media and strangely, it’s become quite a common dimension of our everyday lives. We’re like invisible tourists travelling to these virtual places and spending a good few hours a day there.” explains on of the directors Jordan Haj.
Lake Malawi now want to convey the message of Friend of a Friend to tens of millions Eurovision fans across the world. The band will take part in the ESC semifinal in Tel Aviv on May 14th 2019.
Friend of A Friend was written and produced by Albert Černý, Mikolaj Trybulec and Jan Steinsdoerfer at the Songwriting.cz songwriting camp.
