NICOSIA, CYPRUS – We all missed the Cypriot flags in Eurovision in Copenhagen this year, and almost felt a little empty without the ‘motherland’ there.
Reliable sources close to LGR told us the ‘official’ news will be confirmed soon with the format of a Cypriot final to select, our song. The powers that be have been quick to announce the strong come-back, for next year’s 60th Eurovision Song Contest in Austria. The rules have stipulated only Cypriot singers will be eligible for the heat stages. The song-writer’s either all Cypriot or working with non-Cypriot foreign song-writers in the team.
Song entries have to abide to the 3 minutes (per song) maximum EBU limits and not published in the public domain.
This will obviously mean all British Cypriot artists are eligible to try their hand at flying, the Cypriot flag in the 2015 event.
Rewinding our Eurovision memory banks to 2004, the all UK Cypriot effort ranked 5th place for Cyprus with 16 years-old Lisa Andreas ‘Stronger Every Minute’ written by Mike Connaris of Mcasso Studios. More recently in 2013 our island’s hopes were eclipsed at the semis with Despina Olympiou ‘An Me Thimase’ and Ivi Adamou ‘La La Love’ clinched 16th in 2012.
Do you reckon you have what it takes to write an extremely catchy tune with powerful and strong melodic hooks, that wins Cyprus top 10 in the semi and a final place, then get thinking caps on. The rules and formal procedures for the Cypriot national final will be released shortly.
