Congratulations 2005: Video & Photo Memories
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – The team of oikotimes.com attended the 50th anniversary show for the Eurovision Song Contest back in October 2005, titled Congratulations. Sweden’s 1974 entry “Waterloo” by ABBA, won the contest and it was an amazing production for the press and participants. Here are the stories behind the coverage bringing me once again great memories from the venture, especially watching Katerina Soulioti from Star Channel trying to make interviews in… English!
No matter what happened afterwards, here is a tribute to the Copenhagen 2005 Dream Team of oikotimes.com. From left to right: Gerda Hincaite from Lithuania. Devoted editor and great friend. She managed to be in Denmark having only her hand bag (full of clothes and stuff like Sport’s Billy bag). Giorgos Fantis, our Cypriot editor who introduced us our Greek Cypriot editor Panos Panyides the guy bellow me. Stefanos Georgas, a great personality. I am sad I treated Stefanos so unfairly at some point and didn’t manage to understand more on him. Then it’s me and then is a guy from Eurovision Greek Fan Club, Lefteris, who’s also a dear friend of oikotimes.com. What we remember the most from that project – coverage is that after the Congratulations show, we went to a gay bar believing that there will be Dana International. She never came but we danced all night… Oh and I forgot Morten who is not in the picture as he was the one taking it.
She would be the ideal person to play Joan Collins in a Spanish version of Dynasty. Don’t you think? I am talking about Massiel, the 1969 Spanish Eurovision entrant. I met her for the first time in my life in Copenhagen, Denmark, during the Eurovision anniversary show. She hardly could speak English but she was more than kind to pictured with me. Oh and most of people seen this picture, think that she’s my mom. Loughing Out Louder than ever… (oh and that’s not make up on me, it’s me sweating…)
She is a very pretty and very young lady. She’s our 2005 – 2006 Lithuanian editor Gerda Hincaite who is spotted here with Fabrizio Faniello (2001, 2006) at the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark in 2005. Gerda seems here very hot for Fabrizio. What no one ever answered us is why she was feeling extremely hot for every single male she met? There might be an explanation.Back then she was just 19 years old. Gerda was also living in Athens studying and when she sucked from oikotimes.com we learned she left for Lithuania. Since then we had no news of her. Gerda, wherever you are we miss you dear. All the best Miss Sexy Oikotimer 2005 & 2006!
Have you seen me (Fotis) on a bicycle? Neither have I for 16 years. After 4 days in Copenhagen, Sunday came up and all three of us (Fotis, Stefanos, Gerda) were totally broke. The only solution I had was to call my friend Thanos in Athens to send me a.s.a.p. 100 Euros so we could drive back to the airport at least and get something to eat. But the hotel was 7 km from the city. Stefanos told me to steal 2 bicycles from the hotel parking, go get the money and then return them. This is what we did. We borrowed the bicycles and went down town, to a Western Union. But the problem was that the bicycles were huge and I haven’t be on one for 16 years. The sceen was horrible. I couldn’t manage to stop on time in the red lights, the police cars were watching me with a weird face and I felt twice!
And here is what I promised you, Morten Thomsen from Denmark, the person who was part of the Congratulations 2005 Dream Team. Morten made an exquisite job before and during the anniversary show. To prove that I have to tell you that on the third day been there, he awaited for me, Gerda and Stefanos for 3 hours outside the venue, in the cold, to meet us. We were all sleeping like oxes! Here you can see him and Gerda and in the middle, Marrie Myriam (1977 Eurovision winner)
Mr Eurovision, Johnny Logan and oikotimes.com 2005 Congratulations dream team had a unique experience in Copenhagen. As previously reported in our team blog, the last day of our venture in Copenhagen we run out of money and therefore we “borrowed” with Stefanos, two bicycles to go to the city center and get some money through Western Union. In font of the WU office there was Johnny Logan greeting us. He asked us if we need some money and he offered to help. It was so kind of him but thankfully we were not forced to … unload him!!! Here is Stefanos Georgas with Johnny Logan!
