Amir collaborates with OneRepublic and we expect a smashing hit

FRANCE – “No Vacancy” is a song by American pop rock band OneRepublic. It was released as a single via digital download on April 28, 2017. It was written by band members Ryan Tedder, Brent Kutzle, Drew Brown, and Zach Filkins, as well as Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel Storleer Eriksen from the Norwegian production and songwriting duo Stargate. The song was co-produced by Stargate and Tedder. A version featuring Colombian singer Sebastian Yatra was released on 19 May 2017.

After the release of OneRepublic’s fourth full-length studio album, Oh My My, the band halted all plans for touring and promoting the album following its release. Ryan Tedder described in a lengthy post on the band’s official Facebook page that they suffered from “crippling anxiety” due to the band’s constant touring, recording, and promoting methods.

Tedder revealed that the band was to begin releasing a new song “monthly, weekly sometimes”, departing from their typical album cycle process. He went on to describe the band’s future releases by stating “[the songs] will be varied and with collaborations and may feel bonkers at first. Some will be remixes, others will be just me on piano or guitar.

Some will sound super trendy and new, some will sound classic and old school or very OneRepublic.” In the same post, Tedder confirmed that the band were to release “new music scheduled 2 weeks” after “No Vacancy”.

“No Vacancy” is the first of a string of singles to be released by OneRepublic. Ryan Tedder will also release collaborations with various artists such as Camila Cabello.

Now, it is time for remix number two featuring none other than French Eurovision star from last year… Amir!

Ruslana releases brand new single and video because ‘It’s Magical’

UKRAINE – Single “It’s magical“ is the first Ruslana’s appearance on stage after a long break. This break is caused by dramatic events in Ukraine, which are connected with Ruslana’s life. According to the singer, her new single is much more powerful than her winning “Wild dances”, as it is more emotional and exotic. Without exaggeration, interpreting and creation of the song took more than 12 years, which have passed since her victory in the Eurovision 2004.

This is something that people don’t expect from Ruslana, because she doesn’t expect this from herself either. The authors dared to create an original musical genre, bringing together tender lullaby melodies and exotic rhythms and tunes. This is a progressive sound of 2017. Ruslana found her original singing manner of the song during expeditions in the Carpathian mountains, which are a unique place and which have been the inspiration for the singer for many years. The most important message, which Ruslana wants to deliver to the world is: “Love is unbreakable, strong and unshakable. Love has a pure vibration. It’s magical.” She also has a message for her own country: “Don’t give up hope! Open your soul! I will give you all my power because I love you.”

The filming took place in a unique place – Bazaltovyi career (Rivne region, Bazaltove village). There are only 4 such places in the world. This place was chosen deliberately because it looks similar to the most mystic place in the Carpathians – Shpytsi, where Ruslana got into a storm. While being in the storm cloud she felt that there is a special force that helps one to be brave and survive the hardest times. Oles’ Sanin (one of the most famous Ukrainian film-makers; director of the film “The Guide”, which was nominated for Oskar) reproduced the storm according to the real story in this video.

Ruslana’s outfit, the chain armor, in the video is not accidental either. On producer’s opinion, it best represents her inner world. After the events in Ukraine and extreme expeditions in the mountains, Ruslana feels as a warrior, who’s aim is to protect the most essential – LOVE.

An essential thing in Ruslana’s performance is the fact that she wants to attract people’s attention to a global problem of the civilization, an ecological drama, which is happening right now – deforestation of the Carpathian regions, which are a natural foundation of our ancient culture. Ruslana’s aim is to preserve Carpathian forests, to preserve our unique nature and culture. All of these things are connected and go centuries back in time.

“My song and my performance are necessary for me and my land in order to deliver the messages about us to Europe and to the world ” – says Ruslana

Manel Navarro speaks out on Eurovision experience

SPAIN – Having obtained last place on the Eurovision scoreboard with “Do it for your lover”, Manel Navarro took part in his first official post-Eurovision interview.

The interview focussed on his new song, taking place on a private Spanish television network and Manel confirmed that he has had a bad time on account of the result obtained in Kiev. He did however confirm that now was the time to hold his head up and look to future goals.

During the interview he claimed that what happened was not the fault of RTVE and that maybe the public disliked the song. Manel claiming that at times he got upset with all the negativity surrounding his selection and that he didn’t mean any of the comments directed at Eurofans during the National Final.

He considered the song to be inferior to other acts at the final, notably when comparing himself to eventual winner, Salvador Sobral, he claimed that they were miles apart. He considered Portugal as his favourite fromt he start of events in kiev and that there is no special formula for Eurovision.

His one complaint was for the song, which he claims is not to his style and that he would be happy to take part once more in Eurovision but with a totally different kind of song.

There was some humour directed at the performance of Manel at Eurovision, especially as he famously failed to hit a high note during his moments on stage.

The jokes mostly aimed as saying that it was all done on purpose, which it clearly wasn’t but concluding the interview, Manel Navarro confirmed that he has two concerts lined up for June, in Barcelona and Madrid.

In the meantime in this post you can listen to the new song of Manel.

Both the Greek and English are excellent, but I was thinking that Demy’s performance in Kiev could have the last chorus in Greek in order to make Greece and Cyprus happy! We won’t know until the first round of rehearsals this coming Sunday! 😊

Brand new single and video for Maltese superstar, Ira Losco

MALTA – Ira Losco has just launched a new music video to accompany the 3rd single ‘We Are The Soldiers’ from her upcoming album. Following a brief 8-month hiatus, Losco returned with the power ballad, debuting the song for the first time at the Malta Eurovision national final last February.

‘We Are The Soldiers,’ is the first single release following her participation at the Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm with where she placed 1st in the Jury vote and 3rd overall in the Semi-Finals out of 21 countries which got her through the Finals placing 4th in the Jury vote and an overall 11th position shared with the Netherlands out of 43 other participating countries.

Ira Losco just shared on her fan page

Yesterday’s sudden disappearance of the #AzureWindow left many, including myself, a bit startled & somewhat sad because a scene we were so used to & came to love wasn’t there anymore. Coincidently there is a strong message portrayed by the 4 protagonists in my music video that no matter what life/nature throws at us> we should accept it & soldier on. Let’s learn to #Appreciate all that we have because it might be gone in the next minute!”

This is first power ballad after quite a long while following ‘I don’t wanna talk about it’ from Accident Prone album in 2005 and ‘Idle Motion’ from Fortune teller in 2008, which is nearly 10 years ago. The video features modern day “soldiers” cancer survivor Charlene Mercieca, meningitis survivor and amputee Amy Camilleri Zahra, para-athlete Julian Bajada and visually impaired track athlete Karl Abela.

Ira Losco commented “The best way I thought of relaying this message was with running 4 parallel stories and the positive message of accepting one’s challenge and moving forward in life nonetheless. I am simply the narrator in real life stories. I wanted to celebrate the protagonists. They are real life soldiers.”

“I absolutely love the song. I was adamant on having a poignant visual to accompany ‘We Are The Soldiers.’ All the protagonists are undeniably special and have inspired me in their own unique way. Years back I remember visiting Amy with a close friend. Immediately her infectious smile drew me to her. Charlene’s story went viral last year and really touched me. Julian and karl whom I recently got to know achieved greatly in their realm and they’re both amazing souls , driven in his goals. I’m just so happy to have these incredible people in this music video”, she added

The video was shot by Matthew Muscat Drago and commences a string of singles to be released, each accompanied by a music video, which will lead to the release of the new album this year.

“There are currently over 20 tracks vying for a place in the new album. The creative process is long and laborious, but you ultimately end up with so many great songs all worthy of making it to the album.” said Howard Keith from Jagged House.

Ira Losco’s previous album THE FIRE has been the most successful album to date released by Ira Losco and has gotten rave reviews even internationally. It has held the top 10 spot on ITunes for 28 weeks and still holds a top 10 ranking in iTunes till this day with more than 3 years after it’s release.

Sirusho released her new song on February 19

ARMENIA – Sirusho released her new song on February 19. The song captures a story of an exile, and a story of a million crying souls…

Sirusho’s constant research on the history of Armenian Genocide and numerous survivor testimonies became the driving force behind the lyrics and music of “Der Zor”. An Armenian girl who recalls her father’s commandments, sings about her lost home.

The music video was shot in two parts: at the ruins of ancient Armenian capital Ani and in Los Angeles, California. Filming in Western Armenia was one of the most adventurous challenges Sirusho’s team had faced yet. Ani carries a significant importance for the Armenian nation. Despite centuries of abandonment, the city remains an inspiration for many Armenians.

The shootings proceeded in Los Angeles, California, where those who fled have found shelter, one hundred years ago. Armenian kids play and speak their native language outside the Armenian School, neighboring the Armenian Apostolic Church.

“Der Zor” Documentary, put together by the team, gives the viewers an in depth insight of the story behind the scenes, also a first hand experience of Western Armenia. “Der Zor” music video from “Armat” album was released on February 19, 2017, on SIRUSHO’s official YouTube Channel.

Sweden 2017: review of Melodifestivalen’s third semi final

You can watch the third semi final of Melodifestivalen at 20:00 CET here. Sweden will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. The Swedish broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT) will organise the national final Melodifestivalen 2017 in order to select the Swedish entry for the 2017 contest in Kiev, Ukraine. The winning song will compete for Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 to be held in Kiev, Ukraine. Sweden will compete in the first semi-final of Eurovision Song Contest 2017 on the 9th of May and will have to place within the top 10 out of the 18 in their semi-final in order to qualify and compete in the final on 13 May. The third semi-final will take place on 18 February 2017 at Vida Arena in Växjö.

Robin Bengtsson – I Can’t Go On – Predict Direkt Til Finalen
After last year’s entry Constellation Prize placed fifth it was likely that Robin would qualify almost automatically but this is a tough semifinal. The song is catchy and the treadmill production will make it stand out. Another F-bomb dropped might cause some issue but I believe his popularity will override it.

Krista Siegfrids – Snurra Min Jord (Spin My World) – Predict 5th Place
I love Krista and thought last year’s Faller should of done better but this song is disappointing. It doesn’t go anywhere and with a title like Spin My World I thought I’d be left feeling dizzy but it’s more like dazed and confused. She will garner votes for her presentation and her popularity but I think she will miss out again this year.

Anton Hagman – Kiss You Goodbye – Predict Andra Chansen
Anton is new the Melfest stage but comes with a solid teen girl fan base. The song is great upbeat summer tinged number and he will present it well. The important thing for him will be his vocal as during rehearsals it has been a bit pitchy. He’ll still do well with the girls and gay boys of course, so let’s see.

Jasmine Kara – Gravity – Predict Andra Chansen
Again another debut for Kara but this song is great and with an artist like Dinah, Molly or ISA it would qualify but this girl seems to have a likability issue with the Swedish public. She was 5th out of Let’s Dance and her choir was first to go out in Körslaget. Her albums and singles have failed to make a splash so I think this could very well go another way. Hope not but those fickle Swedes?

Owe Thörnqvist – Boogieman Blues – Predict 7th Place
I know we want diversity in music but really?! I normally find the more experienced artists good fun and token nostalgic but this is just wrong. I’m not sure who will vote for this as it is old fashioned it may get a following from the elder generation but as the Melfest audience is getting younger I don’t think it will have a major impact. This could be an anti Melfest candidate though.

    Bella & Filippa – Crucified – Predict 6th Place
I love the style and their tone but unfortunately I don’t think their song is good enough to leave a mark on Melfest this year. If they manage to pull out a flawless performance they could be in a chance for a second chance spot but based on their rehearsals I’m not sure it will happen. Thanks for coming pick up your participation ribbon at the exit :)

FO&O – Gotta Thing About You – Predict Direkt Til Finalen
The Fooo Conspiracy has a popularity like none other this year in Melfest. They were a dead certain for the final before anyone heard a note. The song isn’t bad actually but it is typical boy band fodder. The presentation will be the deciding factor of whether it will represent Sweden though. Early rehearsals show nothing special but can’t wait to see it in full.
