BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA – BHRT seems to have been refused the proposal of Ralph Siegel to pay the participation fee and expenses of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. According to Bosnian press, Siegel proposed to BHRT the singer Hanka Paldum. Despite the huge financial problems of the broadcaster, BHRT rejected the proposal. Though Hanka is not giving up representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, waiting for the broadcaster to recover and then enter the Eurovision race,
It has been 45 years of Ralph Siegel love affair with the Eurovision Song Contest. It wall started in the 1972 German national selection but he entered the Eurovision stage in 1974 with Luxembourg.
“Dschinghis Khan” (Germany 1979), “Theater” (Germany 1980), “Papa Pingouin” (Luxembourg 1980), and “Johnny Blue” (Germany 1981) are some of his success hits in Eurovision but it was 1982 when he won the Eurovision Song Contest with “Ein bißchen Frieden” performed by Nicole.
In the recent years Siegel returned to the Eurovision dream by paying the San Marino state television’s participations and therefore deciding the entries and singers. The outcome was never successful though.
Despite the 2016 fully private funded participation it is no secret that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national broadcaster is dealing with severe financial troubles. They also in debt to the EBU with 5.5 million Euros in debt.
For some though, Bosnia’s exit from Eurovision Song Contest has something to do with “mother” Turkey influence in the region.
