MINSK, BELARUS – Will there be someday a Belarussian selection without drama or presidential intervention ? The answer is yes, maybe, but not in 2014.

Last Friday the Belarussian selection show took place and TEO with his « so so » song « Cheesecake » was chosen to fly the Belarussian flag in Copenhagen. The final ended up in a tie, were TEO won the jury voting and Max Lorens and DiDyuLya won the public vote. In this very democratic state, the rules stipulate that in case of a tie, the jury’s vote prevails.

Today, the runner up band has sent a letter to President Alexander Lukashenko, to ask him to interfere with the results and cancel the vote of the national final. An extract of this letter was published in the media:

“Members of the jury openly ignored the people’s opinion, who thought it was our duet worthy to represent Belarus at the European competition in Denmark. Opinion of thousands of people who voted just was not taken into account – 8 people have decided for the whole country. In addition, organizers of the selection were made the following gross violations: the jury worked unsettled (absent Chairperson); voting itself jury and treatment protocols were held after the announcement opinions of viewers, creating the possibility of “rigging” the selection results. The result of the contest was so, as if people did not vote at all.

In connection with the above, please:
1) to harmonize the principles of national selection for a pan-European approach: when dialing the same number of points a few finalists priority shall be given an opinion viewer (not the jury), and to ensure equal conditions for voting both sides;

2) review the results of final qualifying round “Eurovision-2014″ and the right to represent the Republic of Belarus duo Max Lorens and DiDyuLya, viewers get from the highest number of votes (8746) with a significant advantage over the party, Theo (5088).”

In addition, an on-line petition was launched and a concert will be staged in Minsk by Max Lorens and DiDyuLya under the motto “For Fair Voting”.

UPDATE 14.01.2014: BTRC’S RESPONSE
PRESS RELEASE – It has become a tradition to disagree with the results of a contest, participants often appeal to public opinion and require revision of existing rules and the results, in whole or in particular.

The official results of the Eurovision 2014 National Final are final: Teo will perform the song “Cheesecake” in Copenhagen. As a result of simultaneous viewers and judicial voting equal number of points scored in the final two artists: Theo and the duo Max Lawrence & Didyulya.

In full accordance with claim 27 Chapter 6 Regulations on national final if two or more participants finals gain equal number of points, the winner is determined by the additional open vote of the jury.

We emphasise that the jury voted during the exact same time with the tele voting timing. Then they signed their votes and no member of the jury could change their votes. The rules were known prior to the competition and everyone participating in it could argue or agree before participating.

It is a pity that the recognition of the victory of fellow creative shop and congratulations on the result achieved and is often an impossible task.

Salut! Born just a few days after Marie Myriam's last victory for my homeland (that's a sign), I've been an ESC fan since Zagreb 1990. In late 2013, I was lucky enough to join the Oikotimes team and even attended my very first contest in situ in Wonderful Copenhagen. Then it was Vienna, Sofia, Stockholm and soon it will be Valletta and Kiev. More to come...
