Belgium 2016: here are the five hopefuls for Stockholm
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – This morning VRT announced its 5 candidates for their National Final. The announcement was made during the radio breakfast show from Peter Van de Veire on radio MNM. Peter is not only the current tv-commentator for the Flemish broadcaster, he was also the host of the last National Final which was won by Axel Hirsoux.
Very remarkable is that not one single big name has been selected. This might be a reason to give the chance to new and upcoming talent which brought success for RTBF with Roberto Bellarosa and of course Loic Nottet. However there we must point out that those artists were selected internally.
These are the 5 hopefulls for Belgium:
Astrid Destuyver is a relatively unknown name for the big public. She has performed already as a backing vocalist with AKS a band based in the city of Leuven who performed already at Pukkelpop. Astrid participated also in 2012 in Belgium got talent along with her sister Heleen but dropped out of the competition. Now she’s aiming to get more in the picture with the main audience. An introduction to Astrid can be found here:
33 year old Amaryllis Uiterlinden started her career back in 2000 when winning the press prize during ‘De Grote Prijs Bart Peeters’. However she felt too young at the time to focus already on a music career and decided to continue her studies at the Herman Teirlinck Institute. In 2009 her first album was released. In 2013 she started to work with Ozark Henry who was one of the judges during Eurosong 2014. This resulted amongst in a huge hit song ‘I’m your sacrifice’
Adil Araab, based in Antwerpen is mostly known for his participation in Idols back in 2007 where he reached the live shows. in 2011 he met his current fellows from AKA. At first they mostly did cover songs but then several original songs were created: Soulfull R&B/pop songs, especially with an acoustic touch in the beginning which would develop later on into larger productions. Now Adil will try his luck at the National selection for Eurovision. Here an acoustic version of the hit song Teardrops:
Antwerpen based Laura Tesoro is known as an actress. She played a main role in the soap opera Familie (Family) on commercial broadcaster VTM but got fame as a singer in the third series of The Voice where she reached the finals. In 2014 she released a first single Outta here which did quiet well in the charts. Currently she’s playing also in the band Level Six. A next step might be Eurovision.
The last candidate is Tom Frantzis also from the Antwerpen region. This is the most unknown name from the five candidates. But that might be also a positive surprise. One of Toms work you can hear here:
Currently the artists will prepare for the national final in searching in collaboration with VRT, records label for the right song to perform with the aim of representing Belgium in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.
