BASIM SUPPORTS ANIMAL PROTECTORS
COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – This year’s Danish entrant Basim has a booked calendar after winning Dansk Melodi Grand Prix three weeks ago. But when the Danish Animal Protectors asked him to support their new animal ambulance he did not hesitate to say yes. The store Maxi Zoo collected 200.000 Danish Kroner with support from the customers and the car company Andersen and Martini put 100.000 Danish Kroner to support the animal ambulance.
Basim drove the new ambulance into its new home in the town of Rødovre close to Copenhagen while several people and fans were watching. He said that this was as important as the Eurovision Song Contest because we need to put focus on poor animals. You can see a video of Basim driving the aminal ambulance and some interviews here (in Danish)
21-year old Basim is preparing for the Eurovision Song Contest with rehearsals and shootings for television. During the last days there has been a debate about his Moroccan origin in Danish media. In a paper Basim was asked if he as an immigrant felt any racism and he answered that he is not an immigrant as he has not immigrated to Denmark. Danish Minister for Integration praises Basim and his answer and many people have shared Basim’s comment on the social media to show the wrong picture of immigrants that is often shown.
