With Tamar Kaprelian or Lilit Hovhannisyan been the favourites of the fans in the social media various names are speculated for the representation of Armenia in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Let’s get to know a few things about the rumoured names:
Lilit Hovhannisyan was born on 7 December 1987 in Yerevan, Armenia. Since she was a child, she wanted to be a dress-designer and she did her best to achieve this goal. However, she later decided to follow a career in music, as she had shown talent musically but up to that point she had been too shy to reveal it. Lilit’s first step in the musical career was through the Hay Superstar show, where she came fourth. Lilit’s life-turning encounter with music happened just because her father insisted on trying her abilities in the sphere of music. Lilit’s first step in this amazing world was marked by a great contest she took part for the first time in her whole life. This new road was full of ups and downs for Lilit, but she was strong enough to overcome all the obstacles on her way, and prove that she has her say in music. In 2002, Lilit left the music school after Jrbashian, the department of piano. Afterwards, in 2005, she graduated from the department of vocal of the State Song Theatre of Armenia’s college. Later on, in 2011, Lilit graduated from the Yerevan State Musical Conservatory (YSC) after Komitas, the department of jazz-vocal. Lilit’s unique and charming voice spiced with her manner of singing, extraordinary hairstyle, optical glasses and her winning smile completes ideally her stunning image. This is exactly how charming Lilit is captured by her audience and earns their great love and attention once and forever. She is the cousin of Twitch superstar GamerMomoe.
Iveta was born in Yerevan, Armenia (then part of the Soviet Union on October 14, 1986). She went to kindergarten in Yerevan. Her family moved to Germany in 1992. She went to school in Germany and from 1998 to 2006, she attended the Catholic Sankt-Ansgar-Schule in Hamburg. She returned to Armenia in 2009 as she says by “parents’ advice” and stayed in her home county despite all the difficulties she had. Iveta started studying jazz-vocal at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. Iveta participated in the fourth season of Hay Superstar song contest in 2010. She came in fifth place. In 2012 she participated on the second season of The Voice of Germany song contest. She performed Loreen’s “Euphoria”. She was chosen by Xavier Naidoo to be part of his team. Mukuchyan was the winning contestant from Naidoo’s team in the second phase of the contest, where the participants sang “Many Rivers to Cross”. In December 2012, she was named the sexiest Armenian by El Style magazine. Iveta’s new single Freak, featuring was Lazzaro, was released on December 24, 2012 and wide reaction in Armenian media.
Kaprelian won the OneRepublic “Apologize” Cover Contest in March 2008, and as a reward, Ryan Tedder helped bring her to the attention of Interscope Records which signed her shortly afterward. Wax Ltd produced her song “New Day,” which went on to be her first single, and her first album Sinner or a Saint on Interscope records was released August 24, 2010. During 2010, she performed Dev’s part of “Like a G6” with The Far East Movement at selected live performances. Her first EP, California, was released on June 19, 2012. Tamar represented Armenia in Vienna at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 along with Essaï Altounian, Vahe Tilbian, Stephanie Topalian, Mary-Jean O’Doherty Basmadjian, and Inga Arshakyan —all with Armenian backgrounds. She became an Armenian citizen along with the other foreign members of Genealogy on 28 April 2015 after being given Armenian passports by President Serzh Sargsyan. After the contest, Kaprelian released a collaborative single “The Otherside” credited to Tamar Kaprelian featuring Elhaida Dani, Elina Born, Maria-Elena Kyriakou & Stephanie Topalian. Dubbed “Eurovision 2015 Song Contest Unity Version”, it included Kaprelian who was part of Armenian entry Genealogy with Dani who represented Albania, Born who represented Estonia, Kyriakou who represented Greece and the Japanese American Armenian Topalian who like Kaprelian was part of Armenia’s Genealogy pan-Armenian diaspora band.
At the age of 12, Manoukian’s first experience in the music industry was when she participated in and won first prize at a talent contest called “This Is What’s Missing” an international TV show production of the Alpha Television Network. A year later in 2008 when Manoukian was 13 years of age, she participated in the national pre-selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, where she placed seventh. In 2011, Manoukian released her first single named “Party Like A Freak’’ which became one of the biggest hit singles in Europe of that year. Following the success of “Party Like A Freak”, Manoukian in 2012 released a follow up single “I Surrender” which instantly became the summer hit of year. In 2014, Manoukian released her latest single “XO”, the lyrics and catchy rhythm became an instant hit when she released her music video for the song in September 2014.
