BACKSTAGE MAY 12: CHARLOTTE PERELLI OPENS EUROVILLAGE / VIDEO
One week before the final of Eurovision. Host city Malmö invites everyone to take part in the party. Right at the city center, at Gustav Adolfs torg, sponsors has built up a Eurovision village with tents for the sponsors and a huge stage in the middle of it all. This will be the place for great activities during the whole week. There will be artists performing several times a day. Almost every one of this year’s participants will pay a visit.
Swedish queen of Eurovision, Charlotte Perrelli, (Eurovision winner 1999 and participant 2008) got the honor to inaugurate the Eurovision village. She performed her winning-entry Take Me to Your Heaven as well as her entry from 2008, Hero. During the opening day all the Nordic participants performed at Eurovision village. Eurovision village seems to have become a success already from start as thousands of people gathered and filled up the large square completely. Swedish media reports that Swedish participant Robin Stjernberg had trouble even reaching the stage and getting away from there after the performance, because of all the crowds. According to Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, Robin was clearly shaken by this.
Already one week before, Malmö is in true Eurovision spirit, it seems. During the semifinals and the final the shows will be broadcast on large-screens. Eurovision village will be open all day between 12 until 9 pm and even longer during show nights.
