Sweden: Svensktoppen Nästa 2017

Svensktoppen Nästa 2017 is the Swedish radio competition through which one singer or group is selected for 2018 Melodifestivalen. The act selected is not necessarily the winner of the Svensktoppen Nästa competition. The song for the Svensktoppen Nästa qualifier to Melodifestivalen is selected afterwards.

Switzerland: National Selection Submissions Open

SWITZERLAND – Swiss national broadcaster revealed more information and a date for their national final. The national selection process begins today with SRG SSR inviting those interested to submit a song by September 22.

A panel of expert 20 members jury will determine the six songs for the final. The panel will consist of people from media, music industry, fans, television viewers.

The selected songs then, will be given to various singers for demo in order to find the appropriate singer for each song. On February 4th the national final will take place with jury and tele voting deciding the winner.

Submissions kick off on September 1st and due on September 22nd following all the EBU regulations. Song authors must be of Swiss nationality or residents but the international authors are also welcomed.

Malta: MESC 2018 submissions due @ Malta

MALTA – Maltese national broadcaster launched the 2018 national selection announcing their participation to the next Eurovision Song Contest. The national selection MESC, will take place in January of 2018.

The compositions (lyrics and music) must not have been commercially released before 1st November 2017. In case the composition has been made available to the public, for example, but not limited to, on online video platforms, social networks or (semi-) publicly accessible databanks, the Artist must inform PBS, who shall have authority to evaluate whether the composition is eligible for participation in the Contest.

There will be 100% tele voting.

All artists must be of Maltese nationality or have dual citizenship, one of which is Maltese. In the case of a group comprising two or more artists, the lead artist must be of Maltese Nationality or hold dual citizenship one of which is Maltese. All artists participating in lead role must be of Maltese Nationality or hold dual citizenship, one of which Maltese. Authors and composers may be of any Nationality.

All submissions must be done online through the PBS website www.tvm.com.mt no later than September 1st. the 1stProcessing fee of €150 which is non refundable with each submission, payable online through PAYPAL

During the eliminatory phase, all songs will be heard by the panel of Judges in full playback form and without the presence of the artist. However, the panel of Judges may request viva voce representation of certain songs in order to establish artist voice quality. The selection process will take place under legal supervision.

In the first phase: 60 Songs (Selection will be done by a panel of judges). In the second phase: 30 Songs (Local and International Juries) and then 16 Songs (100% Televoting)

Artists will be allowed to interpret one (1) song during the Final Phase.

Submissions due on September 1st. The 16 finalists will be announced in October and the national final in January 2018.

Frankfurt Eurovision Convention @ KAP Europa Convention Centre, Frankfurt

The inaugural Eurovision Convention takes place on Saturday the 9th and Sunday 10th September. An event created by the members of Eurovision Groupie, this event includes two days of meet and greets, autograph sessions and a huge concert to celebrate Eurovision music of different genre from different eras. The event is the master mind of Michael Gotz-Pijl and his core team. There will be artists from (almost) every decade and there will be something for everyone. The important information for the convention is as follows:

Dates: Saturday 9th September and Sunday 10th September

Hotels in and around the convention have been block booked by the convention organisers so they can pass on the discounts to the visiting fans and participating artists. The Saturday and Sunday sightseeing tours are sold out, however a small quantity of the following tickets are still available:

Sunday 10th September (single ticket) priced at 40 euros
9th/10th September (2 day pass) priced at 65 euros
