ISRAEL – Israeli songwriters Netta Nimrodi and Arie Burshtein, along with Leonid Gutkin, have co-authored singer Julia Samoilova’s entry in the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, Ukraine, AiF reported on Tuesday. The announcement about Samoilova representing Russia in the competition, with her song Flame Is Burning, was made on Monday.

RUSSIA – In the meantime, Yulia, the Russian representative which was proposed the project at the end of February declares her happiness: “I think they’re proud of me. To some extent, perhaps, they have acquired more confidence in themselves. This situation with the competition shows that we are, in principle, are allowed everywhere, and everyone can achieve very much in our country — to achieve their goal despite some physical moments. The main thing — to believe in yourself and work hard then everything will be fine.” She ignores the debate about her potential arrest by Ukrainian authorities due to her visit in Crimea.

IRELAND – Figures reveal that RTE spent a staggering amount on Nicky Byrne’s failed Eurovision bid. A total of 18 people travelled to Stockholm in May 2016 as part of the Irish Eurovision team, which included RTE staff and artists. However, according to information released under the Freedom of Information Act and obtained by the Herald, this final figure of €337,000 does not include the charge for RTE labour and additional costs. The total does include the Eurovision entry fee of €88,472. Part of this would have gone towards meeting the “substantial costs” the host broadcaster would have incurred.

BELARUS – The Belarusian TV and Radio Company (Belteleradiocompany) will shoot an episode for the Eurovision 2017 postcard for the duo Naviband, BelTA learned from the company’s press service. This year, TV companies of all the Eurovision participating countries will take part in filming the postcards. The organizers will shoot the second part of the postcards in Kiev in May. The postcards will be themed around sincere emotions of the contestants who will be in the spotlight at the major European music event. This decision has been made during the meeting of the delegations of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest participating countries which is underway in the Ukrainian capital on 13 and 14 March. The Belarusian delegation submitted to the organizers a complete package of documents and materials necessary for the participation in the international contest. The organizers presented to the meeting participants the concept of the show and the stage design. The delegations were also offered a tour of the International Exhibition Center that will host the contest. Belteleradiocompany representatives held talks with the Eurovision technical support team to discuss the details of Naviband’s performance. Besides, they met with the delegations of the countries that will also appear in the second semi-final to consider the program of mutual promotion.
