Eurovision 2017: Kyiv (Zhuliany) international airport plans to suspend operations from May 14 to May 24

UKRAINE – The Kyiv (Zhuliany) international airport plans to suspend operations from May 14 to May 24 because of a planned overhaul of its runway. The airport announced this in a statement, Ukrainian News Agency reports. According to the statement, all the flights normally handled by this airport will be transferred to the Boryspil international airport during this period.

“The Kyiv (Zhuliany) airport will be closed from May 14 to May 24 in connection with the planned overhaul of its runway. This winter has been very difficult because of the weather conditions, which involves drops in temperatures, freezing rains, and thawing. All this has affected not only the state of automobile roads, but also on the state of the runway,” the statement said.

According to him, the airport has set up a headquarters for coordinating all activities involving preparation for the overhaul and work with airlines, passengers, businesses, etc.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, passenger traffic through the Kyiv (Zhuliany) international airport increased by 19.4% to 1,127,500 in 2016, compared with 2015.

The Kyiv airport is located 8 kilometers from downtown Kyiv. It occupies an area of 265 hectares, has one runway with a length of 2,310 meters and a width of 45 meters.
