ITALY – Il Volo, the 2015 Italian representatives in the Eurovision Song Contest were invited to perform at the Donald Trump inauguration ceremony on January 20th. The band refused the proposal saying “We do not agree with your ideas and we can not support who is based on xenophobia and racism.”

IL VOLO STATEMENT

“We do not agree with your ideas and we can not support those that are based on populism and xenophobia and racism ‘ claim, asking for respect for those who agreed to participate in the ceremony, no one should be criminalized for singing Donald Trump, or those who refused to do so.” Confronted about possible reprisals from the American people to their work, the group ensures that their refusal will not have any influence on their base in the US: “Our future does not depend on this; those who love us will follow us.”.

Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony as President of the United States of America has been marked by successive refusals by artists: Elton John, Céline Dion, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Kanye West are just few of the singers who refused to attend. Jackie Evancho, singer of 16 years and known of America’s Got Talent, will be responsible for the interpretation of the national anthem, the high point of the ceremony, succeeding Beyonce and Aretha Franklin.

  1. Dear Gianluca, Ignazio and Piero
I totally respect your decision not to perform at the inauguration. Trump is not someone that I respect and is not presidential! I attended your performance in Chicago Saturday night and your voices are a gift from God! I hope that you will be able to perform for Pope Francis soon
    Love you guys!!

  2. Dear Il Volo guys – We love you very much and wish for your success and safety but please do not insult our President Donald Trump who we admire and voted for. You are just regurgitating trash and fake news from the liberal American press and they are not to be believed or trusted. President Trump is neither racist or zenophobic but is definitely pro-American which I believe is what we all want as America is the only reason the whole world has not gone under. God Bless President Trump God Bless Il Volo God Bless America God Bless Italy !

  3. I’m not sure why this article quotes IL VOLO as suggesting that Trump is xenophobic or racist, as he is neither. If one thinks that about Trump, it is clear that Trump has not been heard. I find it hard to believe the IL VOLO guys are that judgmental. If I’m really wrong, you can buy my ticket to the concert.

  4. Bravo Il Volo for your stand. Don’t be concerned at all about your image or following here in the United States. You have only enhanced it.

  5. Love you guys! Since I first saw you on MDA, blew me away! You shouldn’t have to feel political,You are singers! Good job.

  6. Il Volo had the pleasure and honor of singing “Little Drummer Boy” with Jackie Evancho recently and respect her decision to bring something beautiful and honorable to what will otherwise be a very bleak and horrifying spectacle.

  7. Great decision/choice by Il Volo. Any intelligent human would do the same. It is refreshing that three young Italians can see through trump for what he is and too many Americans still do not. Wake up America before it is too late.

  8. I’m sure glad Justin Bieber refused to attend the ceremony. Cause if he and Céline Dion both attended the event, they’d be booed by the audience for “just being Canadian”, which is much like what happened with The Tragically Hip at Woodstock 1999. 🇨🇦

However, I’m kinda pissed that Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry also refused to attend the inauguration. 😡

Maybe if Timberlake sings the national anthem at the Bowl in February, then no one should worry. 🙂

Jackie Evancho has a concert at the Cowan Performing Arts Center in the day after the inauguration, so I think she might have to cancel traveling to Texas. 😕
