UKRAINE 🇺🇦 Tina Karol, the 2006 Ukrainian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest in a recent interview criticised the participation of Alekseev in Lisbon as he is not Belarusian.
“There are citizens of Belarus to represent their country… Even if they did not get to the finals, it’s still a competition where countries meet. If Alekseev took citizenship, it would be a choice — I want (it) to be Belarusians…. Belarus was supposed to be represented by an artist with a Belarusian passport.”
What would she have said if the Belarusian entry ended up high in the scoreboard?
Norwegian representative (also of Belarusian descent, Alexander Rybak) supported the artist who had been actually approved to participate in the national selection by the country’s President Lukashenko.
It is interesting (mostly for Tina) to see that Bulgarian participants consisted from the USA, San Marino represented by German and Maltese singers, Latvian entrant is living mostly in Brazil and the USA, Polish entry featured Lukas Mejer who’s a Swedish vocalist.
Not to forget that countries like Luxembourg, Switzerland and Monaco have won the Eurovision Song Contest with another nationality singers.
