🇳🇱 Glennis Grace (2005) impresses the jury and proceeds to quarter-finals of America’s Got Talent
USA – Glennis Grace won over “America’s Got Talent” head judge Simon Cowell with her soaring cover of “Run to You” by the late Whitney Houston. Before surprising the judges and audience with her powerful singing voice, the soft-spoken single mother admitted her 11-year-old Anthony had inspired her to face her fears and audition. At 39, she was not sure if she was too old to try and fulfill her dreams. Watch her “AGT” audition above and judge for yourself.
Cowell opened the lovefest with the observation, “I feel like I’m looking at a star already.” While Mel B and Heidi Klum were also enthusiastic, they counselled Grace to bring some of herself into her next performance. It did not to be all Whitney all the time. “Run to You” was a cut from Houston’s Grammy-winning soundtrack to “The Bodyguard.”
In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty observed, “Seriously, the similarities of her voice to Whitney’s is truly uncanny. The performance earned a standing ovation from the entire room, including the judges, and while she easily earned a spot in the next round, both Mel and Heidi warned that she needs to break away from how much she sounds like Whitney in order to establish herself as a unique artist. We’ll see what she does with that advice in the next round!”
