Since the fire emerged cut off thee exit of the costal side by burning the national road therefore people headed to the nearest beach side where anyway lots of people where already there for their summer baths. But the wind turned nasty and towards the beach.
Due to the smoke and the free reaching the beaches, people started swimming in the open sea in late afternoon and all night causing lots of injuries, deaths and missing people.
The port of Rafina was also surrounded by fire, all road exits from east Attica to Athens where one fire and people got trapped. power cut off the ability of electric pumps to automatically work and water supplies couldn’t stop the fire.
Eurostars such as Kalomira, Demy, Helena Paparizou, Eleni Foureira, posted not only photos from the destruction and the chaos but also vital information for those who can go and help with medications, food, shelter support, animal help and more.
We at oikotimes.com also participate in this by trying to spread the information. After all we were caught outside the Rafina port yesterday as the ship we were in stopped before embarking in order to participate in the rescue of 10 missing Danes who got on a boat to avoid the fire.
