FRANCE – After being appointed as a commentator for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, for the French broadcaster, well-known French composer André Manoukian spoke about Bilal Hassani’s participation in Tel Aviv.
“I’m not completely convinced,” André Manoukian said in an interview with Télé Star, “I told him at the beginning: ‘The song is very well done and you have a great character, but you have to work on your voice.'”
André Manoukian, who was one of the commentators for the Destination Eurovision 2019, says that one of the strong points of the candidacy is Bilal’s message:
“The song is beautiful and very strong … It’s something very pure and very simple. In the way he passes the message, even with the look”, defended, emphasizing Bilal’s power with the younger communities. In social networks, children were fascinated as if he were a cartoon character.”
André Manoukian is a French songwriter, arranger, jazz musician, and actor of Armenian descent. Since 2002, he is also one of the four judges in the French version of Pop Idol, Nouvelle Star.
Born in Lyon, France, Manoukian is of Armenian descent. He began playing the piano when he was seven years old. Later, when he was a student, he sold organs in a shop to earn money. At 20, he studied music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After the basics he studied musical composition, arrangement and harmony.
