AUSTRIA – Yesterday in Vienna, the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards were presented for the 19th time – and a star shone bright as ever: Conchita, who led the evening with her presentations – and rocked the room as Wurst with the new single “Hit Me”.
Yesterday, he posted a photo of himself as Conchita on Instagram. And his fans were freaking out, looking forward to the return of the Song Contest winner in their usual outfit. Sovereign as in the previous year, she then led by the award ceremony – even when she – in a pre-recorded part – announced itself. As a sausage Neuwirth sang his new single “Hit Me”.
For Wurst it was his first appearance on television – and he was able to convince: “Hit Me” is a catchy electro song, which installs itself immediately into the ear canals. The performance was perfectly choreographed.
The outfit – above the beard, iro and hoodie, down leggings and high heels – shows that Tom Neuwirth understands the game of gender roles perfectly. Wurst also interviewed other artists with a woolen hat and a large but emphatically male round-cut, and adapted his dialect color almost perfectly to that of the interviewee.
And that could only be the beginning. “There’s a lot more to come because it’s incredibly fun to ignore all the rules I’ve imposed on me before. I’m bigger than life because of the many transformations, a bit more dramatic and hysterical than usual! “Said Neuwirth in an interview with the daily newspaper Österreich.
In the prizes there were favorites in almost all categories. Pizzera & Jaus (“Best Live-Act”), Seiler & Speer (“Pop / Rock”), “Cordula Grün” by Josh. (“Song of the Year”) or RAF Camora (“Hip Hop / Rap”) were happy about the trophies.
For the big surprises Neuwirth provided former background singer Ina Regen. She prevailed with “Klee” against the strong competition in the race for the “Album of the Year”, leaving even Andreas Gabalier behind. The EAV was honored for her lifetime achievement.
The Amadeus Austrian Music Awards then concluded Conchita with very telling words: “When the wind of change blows, some build walls and the other windmills. We want to be the ones with the windmills, “said the biggest diva on the Austrian music scene.
