MF 2014: FIRST SEMIFINAL REVIEW

MALMÖ, SWEDEN – Melodifestivalen will kick off next Saturday from Eurovision 2013 host city, Malmö. As rehearsals are going full swing, SVT has eventually published snippets of the 8 contenders that will take part to the first semi-final.

YOHIO “To The End”: nice melodic pop song, where YOHIO definitely tries to look like Lady Gaga this time. Mahan Moin “Aleo”: oriental flavoured dance song which can be repetitive even after a single minute though. Linus Svenning “Bröder” (Brothers): sweet ballad in Swedish, almost a modern lullaby

Elisa Lindström “Casanova”: first schlager of this year’s edition. Nice voice but no surpise and sounds a bit old fashioned. Alvaro Estrella “Bedroom”: dance track with an effective tune and a pretty face (it always helps). Ellen Benediktson “Songbird”: another ballad, sweet, melodic but may get lost in this semi-final’s line up

Sylvester Schlegel “Bygdens Son” (The neighbourhood’s son): folk music entry, in Swedish, not unpleasant and with a slight Motown flavour. Helena Paparizou “Survivor”: here’s THE lady. A glamorous entry that definitely deserves to be listened til the end to see how powerful it can get. One thing is sure, that’s gonna be a very open semi-final and not even a fortune teller could guess the outcome.

BETTING ODDS

Yohio and Linus Svenning are now tipped to be the top favourites to qualify on Saturday based on BraOdds.com. Helena Paparizou and Ellen Benediktson are tipped for the second chance. Although most of the times betting odds are not accurate when it comes to Meldifestivalen they surely create a sentiment before the show!
